Solo Exhibition by Arlet Gómez

Curated by Sergio Gomez.

Presented by 33 Contemporary Gallery at the Palm Beach Art & Design Showroom, New Zip Code is a solo exhibition by Cuban-American artist Arlet Gómez.

Through painting, mixed media, and site-specific wooden installations, New Zip Code examines the emotional architecture of belonging. Childhood memory, migration, imagination, faith, and hope intersect in a body of work where sandcastles evolve into cities, drawings become architectural propositions, and play functions as a framework for envisioning home.

Rooted in personal experiences of displacement and renewal, the exhibition reflects on the human impulse to imagine and construct places before inhabiting them. It also considers migration as a collective experience- one that emerges whenever individuals, families, or communities choose to begin again, carrying memories, aspirations, and fragments of previous homes into new landscapes. Beyond physical relocation, the works evoke a deeper search for permanence, drawing on the idea of eternal dwellings and the human longing for a safe place of refuge, continuity, and peace. Throughout the gallery, children build speculative worlds while linear wooden structures emerge from the pictorial surface, extending into the exhibition space as immersive forms inspired by houses, castles, and boats.

By blurring the boundaries between drawing, sculpture, and environment, the exhibition explores how identity is shaped through memory, aspiration, and the places we carry within us. In New Zip Code, imagination becomes structure and vision becomes blueprint, offering a meditation on resilience, belonging, and new beginnings. At the same time, the works point toward a horizon of hope - one in which the idea of home extends beyond geography, suggesting both the possibility of renewal in the present and the promise of an enduring place of belonging.

The exhibition is also available online through Artsy, expanding access to the project beyond the physical gallery space.
